I am beginning an impromptu, casual lecture series about Ezra Pound's Cantos.
In this episode, I focus on the first canto, the beginning of a sprawling epic that tries to create an economy of writing for modernising capitalism. The first canto begins with a tragic, comical death: Elpenor's. It is a remembrance of the dead, within the remembrance of the dead found in the Odyssey which echoes the deaths of the Iliad.
